How To Write an Author Bio

When you are working on an author’s bio you normally want to have certain information in it including of course your name or a name you go by if you have a pen name, lot of times especially if it is a long term assignment or a book getting published you want a general location, and a little history about your writing. You may include your age but I normally suggest against it due to the work that is involved in updating it constantly. I also do not suggest giving out your full mailing address unless it is a PO Box when it comes to fan clubs and other correspondence with your readers not to mention it helps keep your privacy.

Now some other things you want to include are any web links to your work or to a site you might have featuring your work as well. This will give yourself traffic which might help you sell more things if you are selling something or at least generate a fan base for your work as you work on various portions on your website. There are many various places you can go for a good basic site for free if you do not have the money getting your own but that can be covered in another article. A great resource to use on author bio’s is your favorite books because I can almost guarantee every book you have read in the very back of the book or in the very front it depends on the book there will be a little blurb about the author use that as a good guideline for your bio although there will be some cases where longer one’s will be needed you can get a feel for what is required and how one would sound like.

Just remember in a lot of ways you are selling yourself so be sure that everything is sound information that you are providing and that you use language that everyone can understand even if that might mean putting away your pretty or fluff words you might use for certain pieces aside. Normally it is also good to make good concise sentences and not ones that go on for a long time like if you are describing something in a good. You want it to the point that the reader can read it and walk away with knowing about you and perhaps ready to check out the sites you gave them in the bio.

Now remember to have a bit of fun with this because if you do not have fun with it you are not giving yourself the full benefit of writing the author bio because it really does help with your creative. You might come up with things while writing it for future stories, articles, and other things you can use for publication. Remember to put a lot of your own flair into it because it needs to smell of you and what you are about. Remember you are selling yourself but also do not be too harsh on yourself either when it comes to doing these.
