Brian Crowl: An Undiscovered Talent
Brian Crowl, also known as the Sitar Lover and Nightmare Sitarist, is not only an undiscovered talent of Sitar but also an undiscovered talent of guitar, drums, vocals, and much more. An underground musician that lives in Portland Oregon and has a Masters Degree in Indian Music Performance which is known to be an MPA PHD. This degree was earned through Chandrakhant Sabbathira's School Of Healing Arts. Brian has performed with many various people through the years such as Peevish, Mike Sprigo, The Sexy Water Spiders, Static Chair, Dancing Frog Battallion, Sub-Sic, Daemonation, Cephalatomac, Mick O'Grady Trio, Synnergy, Black Lagoon, Dj Neq, MC Boogerton, Nequaquam Vacuum, Societas Insomnia, The Razbar Ensemble, The Nightgaunt Ensemble, Black Magic Christmas, Egotronics, Ant Brain Worm, The Village Idiot Killers, Cynide & Laxatives, Eek And Bump, and many more.
His music career with other musicians started with Peevish which at the time was a two year old bad that was a collection of jazz musicians who played with Miles Davis. For awhile he also worked for Victory Records. Has done some recordings in the studio and helped produce for Atreyu, Martyr Ad, Buried Alive, and Grizz. Did a television show with the band "Child At Play" on the Kirk Reeve's Low Comedy Special on public access. Some of the other things he has done is playing at the How to Destroy The Universe Festival with Cicuri Curajul and Penguins from Mars Attack, Belthane at the Watershed, Cherish Wilkins from the Pilgrims of Wrath, Charlotte from Ember Swift, When he was in Ohio he got to Jam with the Bassist for Disturbed, Michael Quick and Slumberland, Agata from Melt Banana in an underground show, Eric Johnson in a Social Guitarist Workshop years ago through Music Lovers in Ohio near the House of Blues, a large burner festival at the Owl Parliament called "Spazz Out" this festival had a turnout that was over 6,000 people and at the door they were taking donations, cover charges, and selling merchandise.
He has performed with dozens of the 36 invisibles collective and 2 gyrlz performance arts collective. Brian has dealt with many warehouse projects : Watershed Workshop, Launchpad Gallery, Circus Worx, Lunatix, Dead Warriors Society, Earthlight Collective, and Nature Works Collective, and RoseAir Collective and 999 Eyes of the eternal dreamer collective, Branx, Rotture, Owl Parliament, Clownhouses Inc, Eternal Eye Records Collective, and Smegma Collective. Some of the people and companies he has worked with through his career as a musician are: 0-in-Eye Records, Jackpot Records, Lunatix Records, Failing Records, Bishop Records, and Summer's Eve Records.
Brian currently plays open mics at the following places in Portland Oregon: Ladd’s Inn, Ash Street Saloon, Airplay Café, The Goodfoot, Muddy Waters Coffee House, White Eagle, Tom's Restraunt, and many more. Everywhere he goes people just love the sound of the sitar as he plays being transformed to another place and time. His love of music is very strong and takes his musicial inspirations from anything he can get his hands on. His music expresses many types of sounds everything Ambient World Fusion, experimental, post asiatic, metal, jazz, punk, comedy, and many more.
