Life As An Asthmatic Part 5

Things have been very crazy in my life that I haven't had the chance to write on the life of as an asthmatic. During the last almost two months I had been working two jobs the temporary job with Adecco and the ad job and recently I was able to quit both of those to start a temporary to permanent position on the 31st. When I had been working the two jobs I really didn't have the energy to write much of anything because I was always very tired after working the two jobs and not have much time to relax. Through that time as well I also have had some asthma problems. I have finally been able to get my medication including my preventative thanks to the Vocational Rehabilitation and got two new pairs of glasses that has been needed for a long time.

Now, as promised, I will go over some of the various treatments of asthma. One of the main things asthmatics use on a pretty normal basis to help their asthma is various medication that is out there for asthmatics. Through webmd we find that these are (http://www.webmd.com/asthma/guide/asthma-treatments): Steroids and Other Anti-Inflammatory Drugs, Bronchodilators, Inhalers, Nebulizer, and Prednisone. Steroids usually are used for preventative measures helping so that you don't have any asthma related attacks from your triggers and etc although it doesn't stop all attacks. Broncholiators are your albuterols of the world the main thing every asthmatic usually ends up using when one is having an attack. These though only last a few hours and if you are having to use it more than a few times a week than your asthma isn't controlled which is why those with moderate to severe asthma usually get put on a steroid to help with the asthma systems and problems they have in their lives.

Inhalers are the actual drugs put through your system to get into your lungs. Nebulizers are another way to put medication into your lungs especially if one has a problem dealing with regular inhalers this machine makes sure that the medicine is delivered to your lungs this does take longer to do but for some people this is an easier way to handle getting medication into your system. Prednisone is one of those only used vary rarely if you have had major attacks and nothing else is working. I recently was put on this myself for awhile due to having an upper respiratory infection. You can usually get put on this for bronchitis at times as well to help clear out the stuff in your lungs and is very effective. Although long term effects can be harmful for short term times this is a great medicine to use to help you get to the path of recovery.

Remember though, that if you are doing all in your power or what your doctor has given you doesn't seem to be working be sure to talk to your doctor to see if there is anything else you can do to help you out. Remember communication is important and I always say if you find that the person you are going to isn't listening to you be sure to get someone who does. Asthma is a serious disease and you need someone who is willing to listen to you in order to help you be proactive in your life. Another important thing I want to go over for this blog is some of the ways you can live with asthma every day which is what all of us rather you have mild to severe asthma does every day. Live every day with the problems, the challenges, and sometimes the frustrations that come with having this currently incurable disease.

As with other things in life diet has a lot to do with the well being and it's possible might have something to do with asthma in general although more research needs to be done to figure out if certain foods have a direct impact on asthma in general. A few facts to consider when it comes to diet according to webmd (http://www.webmd.com/asthma/guide/asthma-diet-what-you-should-know): "people who eat diets higher in vitamins C and E, beta-carotene, flavonoids, magnesium, selenium, and omega-3 fatty acids have lower rates of asthma. Taking vitamins, minerals, or other food supplements will improve your asthma control and prevent symptoms of asthma. Having good nutrition is important because without it you are more likely to get certain illnesses that can make your asthma worse or cause other problems. Another thing that is important to well being is exercise, however this could prove to be difficult depending on the type of asthma you have or what can cause it. There are ways though that you can still lead a healthy lifestyle that includes exercise even with having asthma.

Usually certain types of activities that require short intermittent periods of exertion work the best for those that have asthma. Those that require longer or deal with cold type weather are usually ones that don't work as well for those that are asthmatic. With that in mind there is still some things to keep in mind when exercising which are (http://www.webmd.com/asthma/guide/exercising-asthma): Use your inhaler before exercising, use warm up exercises and good cool down times after exercise, when it is cold outside either exercise as much as possible inside or wear a scarf or mask during the time of the exercise, if you have allergic type asthma be extra careful on high pollen count days and/or high air pollution, don't exercise when you have a viral infection this can actually make things worse, and be sure to exercise at the level that is right for you. Don't overdo it but also make sure that you do get the exercise needed to help your lifestyle and your well being.

Stress is another factor in our lives which can be linked to having more asthma problems if one gets under too much stress in their day to day life. There are a few things that is helpful to help manage stress (http://www.webmd.com/asthma/guide/stress-asthma) such as changing your thoughts, reduce your stressors, try avoid stressful situations, exercise daily, get plenty of rest, eat a good diet, give some tasks to other people when needed, find support for yourself, and practice relaxation exercises. Sounds easier said than done though doesn't it? Even doing these things having asthma is still a challenge that is difficult to face on a day to day basis. There are going to be days that will make you frustrated this is where especially having a good support system is helpful during those rough days of being an asthmatic.

To conclude this part of life as an asthmatic I want to have you think about what sort of treatments if you have asthma are you using? Is these treatments working the best for you? Are you doing your best day to day to help your asthma? Do you have the support you need? In the next edition of Life As An Asthmatic I will start going over more personal stuff of how my life is as an asthmatic. Until than take care of yourself and take care of those that you love as life is precious and a gift. God bless.
